This is a rare opportunity to join an executive leadership team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a modern SaaS platform operating within a highly regulated environment. As CTO, you will be responsible for how the organisation builds, scales and operates its technology platform. You will lead engineering, architecture, platform strategy, security, reliability, quality and AI adoption while ensuring the business can continue to innovate without compromising operational excellence.

This role is ideal for a technology leader who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership and is passionate about building high-performing engineering cultures.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO, the CTO will serve as the organisation's senior technology leader and trusted advisor, responsible for establishing the technical vision and ensuring engineering execution aligns with business objectives.

You will lead multiple technology functions while building the foundations required for long-term growth, scalability and operational maturity.

This is not a role focused solely on people leadership or technology governance. The successful candidate will bring strong technical credibility and a deep understanding of modern SaaS platforms, engineering excellence and emerging technologies including AI.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Platform Leadership
  • Lead and mentor Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Architects and Software Engineers.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, practices and ways of working.
  • Drive platform scalability, performance, maintainability and operational excellence.
  • Build a culture focused on accountability, ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Develop capability uplift, succession planning and hiring strategies across engineering teams.
Architecture & Technical Strategy
  • Define and maintain target architecture and long-term platform strategy.
  • Drive system design decisions balancing innovation, scalability and operational risk.
  • Establish integration patterns, domain boundaries and architectural guardrails.
  • Manage technical debt strategically and transparently.
  • Ensure platform extensibility and maintainability as the business scales.
Platform Engineering & Developer Experience
  • Own CI/CD strategy and engineering tooling.
  • Improve developer productivity through modern engineering practices and automation.
  • Drive observability, monitoring and platform reliability initiatives.
  • Champion DevEx (Developer Experience) across engineering teams.
Security, Reliability & Quality
  • Lead application security and secure software development practices.
  • Establish quality engineering standards and automation frameworks.
  • Drive vulnerability management, risk reduction and operational readiness.
  • Implement reliability frameworks including SLOs, incident management and post-incident learning.
AI & Emerging Technologies
  • Define the organisation's AI adoption strategy and governance framework.
  • Introduce AI-enabled engineering practices across software delivery workflows.
  • Drive productivity improvements through AI-assisted development, testing and documentation.
  • Evaluate and implement agentic AI workflows where appropriate.
  • Ensure AI adoption remains secure, compliant and measurable.
Executive Leadership
  • Partner closely with the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Provide technology guidance, investment recommendations and strategic direction.
  • Represent the business externally through industry engagement, customer interactions and thought leadership activities.
  • Align technology investments with business objectives and growth plans.

About You

You are a technology leader who combines strong technical depth with outstanding leadership capability.

You have likely operated as a CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, Engineering Director or senior technology leader within a SaaS, fintech or product-led organisation and have successfully scaled teams, platforms and engineering functions.
Essential Experience
  • Senior technology leadership experience within SaaS, fintech or product organisations.
  • Strong software engineering, architecture and platform engineering background.
  • Proven experience scaling engineering teams and operating models.
  • Experience leading cloud-native environments and modern software platforms.
  • Strong understanding of security, reliability and quality engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated success implementing AI-enabled engineering workflows and modern developer tooling.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
Highly Desirable
  • Fintech, insurance or financial services experience.
  • Experience operating within regulated environments.
  • Experience building AI-enabled products or platforms.
  • Exposure to enterprise SaaS environments.
  • Experience supporting rapid growth and scale-up businesses.
